ABOUT US

Our Misson

Franklin County Arts Council (FCAC), is a not for profit organization that supports and presents the arts and artists in our community. We encourage community participation in the arts to enrich the quality of life of the county's residents. We foster arts awareness and education, and we encourage the use of arts as a tool for economic development.

Our Ethos

We believe that the arts are a necessary component of a high quality of life. The arts are for everyone regardless of race, gender or socioeconomic status. The arts unify a diverse populace and help to unlock creativity in all aspects of life.

What we do

The FCAC encourages all people in Franklin County to experience, and participate in, the arts. We promote local artists and Franklin County as a center for the arts

How we do it

The FCAC enhances the visibility of the arts in Franklin County through communication, education and events. We encourage affordable activities through which Franklin County citizens may experience and enjoy the arts, and at which local artists may express their talents. We have a growing, active and diverse membership, and capitalize on its broad expertise. We engage with state and local governments, related non-profit organizations and businesses. We work to secure funding from, but not limited to, NC Arts and the local Franklin County Government.

Our History

The Franklin County Arts Council was formed in 1979 by twelve forward-thinking arts enthusiasts.
After several meetings, Arts Council founder Allen de Hart was joined by Edith Anderson, James H. Brown, C. T. Dean, Margaret Gupton, Julia Kornegay, Thilbert Pearce, Maude H. Thomas, James A. Williams, Luther Baldwin, Sandra Elam, and Parker Lumpkin to put together the necessary program and documents that created the Franklin County Arts Council (FCAC).
The Arts Council was officially chartered August 30, 1979, by the state of North Carolina. These 12 citizens were the first Board of Directors for the new Arts Council and held the first official meeting on November 15, 1979.
In the past 30 years some of the activities of the FCAC include singing conventions, school concerts, arts exhibitions, craft shows, artists and musicians-in-residence, photography shows, children’s art camps, and literary events.
